In a culture of screens, constant entertainment, and overloaded schedules, solitude is something that we rarely find ourselves having; but, when we do find those rare moments of solitude, where do our minds go? The irony of our solitude is that we are rarely ever "alone." We fill our minds with the latest worry, to-do list, work project...the list goes on. Just think about the last time you found yourself alone. Where did your mind wonder? Probably to anything but Jesus. Solitude is a rare gift we often squander.
1 Peter 5:7 says, "Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you." The next time you find yourself having some solitude (or better yet, make time for some!), try giving those things that fill your mind over to Jesus! Worrying about your kids? - Pray for them. Thinking of the stress of your job? - Pray for peace. Thinking about nothing? - Thank God for the riches found in Nothing But Jesus!
Perhaps the biggest distractions in life come when we are alone to ourselves. But, as the well-known song says, "When I am alone, Give me Jesus!"
Let it be Jesus in our solitude!
