Let It Be Jesus As A Wife

Posted by Melanie Betters on

Proverbs 31:10 tells us that “a wife of noble character is hard to find. She is worth far more than rubies.” This chapter outlines a beautiful template of a wife who places high value on her relationship with her husband.

We can see Jesus all over Proverbs 31. A wife who seeks to be like Jesus will be empowered by His Holy Spirit to exhibit the following character qualities:

She knows her words are powerful, so she desires to be her husband’s ENCOURAGER. “She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life (31:12).”

She is a HARD WORKER who battles against laziness despite the mundane tasks that face her on a daily basis. “She sets about her work vigorously (31:17)” because she knows marriage is a partnership.

She is MERCIFUL. “She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy (31:20).” This obviously applies to the physical needs of others, but it also applies when her husband is poor in spirit, needy, or undeserving of receiving mercy.

She RESPECTS her husband. This is probably the deepest need in her husband’s heart, and she knows this. The main reason “her husband is respected at the city gate (31:23)” is because she consistently speaks well of him.

She “can laugh at the days to come (31:25)” because she DOES NOT WORRY. She knows that worry is not helpful, so she finds reasons to cling to joy and share that joy with her husband.

She realizes her RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS is her highest priority. She “speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue (31:26)” because she consistently spends time studying Scripture. “A woman who fears the Lord is to be praised (31:30).” This is why “her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value (31:11).”

Let it be Jesus…in your role as a wife!
