Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus, to all God’s holy people in Christ Jesus at Philippi, together with the overseers and deacons: Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. ~ Philippians 1:1-4
Our pastors, elders and staff agree that we could easily write the same encouraging, honest, transparent, challenging, and Christ-centered things to Reach Church that Paul and Timothy wrote to the Philippian Church. Throughout our 35-year history, Reach Church has always been a “Philippian Church” (the most encouraging example of an imperfect church in the Scriptures) and the way you have responded to the crazy and unexpected events of 2020 has been no different. Because of the way God has fought and won one battle after another for us, we are emerging from the events of 2020, not wounded or weakened, but resolved and poised to pursue our mission of “living to reach all people with Nothing But Jesus” as never before. In fact, our world needs this message like never before.
Our world has changed dramatically since March. Now, as we begin to return to a sense of normalcy, and as we press towards resuming in person worship and ministries, we must understand that we are not returning to the same world we left behind months ago. Though we may return to some of our favorite restaurants, cheer for our sports teams again, and finally get some much-needed hugs, the culture around us has changed. We must fight our desire to simply return to a new level of normal. Instead, we must continually ascend to our roles as Christ's ambassadors in the world we live in, never simply reverting back to the known, but to transcend to the new level of good that Paul shares in his letter to the Philippians. A focus on truth. A focus on unity. Majoring on major things and not minor things. Encouraging one another. Investing in the next generation. And fighting off any wolves (Paul calls them “dogs”) who may threaten the flock in our pursuit of Nothing But Jesus.
We believe that the world events are such that all churches will need to approach the coming days not as a finish line, but as a starting line. To that end, we are launching a CORE Team of Reach Church. You don’t have to be a super spiritual person or have your whole life figured out to be part of this team. You don’t have to be a long-time member or previously involved in lots of stuff to be part of this team. Like I said, this is the starting line! Therefore, on Monday, July 13th at 7:00pm, we are inviting you to be a part of CORE Team Training! We believe we are positioned to make a profound impact on our community with the message of Nothing But Jesus, but we need every person in our church to find their unique role! Maybe it's simply to be present, to be more intimately connected with your church family and to simply take the next small step of your faith journey. Perhaps you have been on the sidelines for years…it’s time to “forget what lies behind and press forward to what lies ahead” (Philippians 3:13). Perhaps God is calling you to lead a volunteer team, lead a small group or Bible Study, become a church officer, or lead worship. Maybe your calling is to greet people at the door and make people smile. Maybe it's to be a part of the lives of our children or teens. Whatever you find your calling to be, the body of Christ needs you. Reach Church needs you to reach all people with Nothing But Jesus!
CORE Team Training will start on Monday, July 13th in-person at the church! We will practice social distancing and invite you to wear a mask if you feel comfortable with doing so. However, we don’t want anything to hinder your ability to be part of the CORE Team! You will be able to Zoom if you must participate from home. We are excited to offer this hybrid format, and we will provide materials to keep your kids busy and engaged while you are in training! We will spend Monday nights together for 8 weeks, concluding on August 31st.
We are encouraging EVERYONE to commit to be a part of CORE Team Training. We are expectant that God will use this time to unite us together as a church, to strengthen your own spiritual journey, and to further ready our church for what is to come - because we believe the best is yet to come!
In Christ Alone,
Pastor Chuck L. Betters, on behalf of the Session and Staff
